GoogleCensorship.org is the follow-up project to AppleCensorship.com, created to monitor the mobile app ecosystem more comprehensively. Just as Apple censors its App Store, Google also engages in censorship practices in its Play Store, often without transparency or accountability. This platform was developed to expose Google’s censorship activities and highlight the need for transparency in app availability across the globe.
Both AppleCensorship.com and GoogleCensorship.org are part of
The App Censorship Project, a broader initiative by GreatFire.
GreatFire is an organization dedicated to combating online censorship and advocating for freedom of information. In 2025, the App Censorship Project website will aggregate data from both Apple and Google platforms, allowing users to gain cross-platform insights into app availability and censorship.
Through ongoing monitoring, we aim to bring attention to the impact of these practices on fundamental rights, such as access to information and privacy. By expanding our focus to include Google, we strive to ensure that both tech giants are held accountable for their actions and that transparency prevails in the digital ecosystem.
